Music

Music cleanses the understanding; inspires it, and lifts it into a realm which it would not reach if it were left to itself.  ~ Henry Ward Beecher (1813 – 1887)

We need magic, and bliss, and power, myth, and celebration and religion in our lives, and music is a good way to encapsulate a lot of it. –Jerry Garcia

All music comes from God. –Johnny Cash

Music ministry at FUMC Gulfport is a way that we seek to serve God and to draw nearer the heart of God.  To sing and to play is a gift offered to God and to the community of faith.  It is an invitation to enter into the mystery and beauty of worship.  The Chancel Choir leads worship weekly through music.  Our musicians, Jeanie Pollard and Mary McKay, open the window for us to peer into the Presence of God.  From time to time we have guest musicians, vocalists, and ensembles.  All of them lead us into a time of worship, reflection, and devotion to God.

The Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir meets weekly on Wednesdays at 6:30-8:00 and sings in worship each Sunday and other occasions as needed for special services (including Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter, and during our annual Gospel Sing in August).  Smaller ensembles are formed to provide additional music for worship and other special events.

Instrumentalists and Soloists

Not able to make a weekly commitment to an ensemble?  Your musical talents are still welcome!  Come sing a solo, play an offertory, or form a trio for a special occasion!  Give of your musical gifts!
